Growing Vine Street

As part of the Belltown 20|20 Community Initiative, the Battery Block Party is an event to inspire members of the public to gather and share ideas to help shape the future of the Battery Street Corridor linking Denny Park with the Central Waterfront. The Battery Block Party will take place on September 15-16, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Battery Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues. This project will be completed by November 30, 2018.

Filipino Community of Seattle-duplicate

The Filipino Community of Seattle's (FCS) Bayanihan Empowerment Project (BEP) brings together our three most impactful signature events: Talipapa Market Cultural Festival, Community Tree Lighting & Night Market, and AANHPI Journeys: A Family Book Celebration (formerly AANHPI Family Book Event). BEP seeks to inspire, connect, and empower our multicultural and multigenerational community including seniors, youth, families, and entrepreneurs in the Rainier Valley area. These unique and creative events cultivate cultural pride, provide vital economic opportunities, and foster intergenerational bonds. The events are free and open to the public. The first event, AANHPI Journeys: A Family Book Celebration will be held on May 17, 2026, 11am to 3pm, at the Filipino Community of Seattle located at 5740 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. Seattle, WA.

Beacon Hill Hub

The Beacon Hill Hub will host a Business Fair on Saturday, November 9, 2019, from 12 noon to 4:00 PM at 6020 Beacon Avenue South. The goal of the project is to showcase the diversity of goods and services available on Beacon Hill. There will be activities for participants of all ages.

Safety and Community at Hanford and 16th

The community group Safety and Community at Hanford and 16th wants to make pedestrian improvements at 16th Ave. S. and S. Hanford Street. The improvements will improve safety for pedestrians in this high traffic non-arterial street. The project will install painted curb bulbs, tough posts to provide vertical definition to the space. The project will also include community outreach in the vicinity of the project, and a neighborhood gathering and celebration at the conclusion of the project. The project will be completed by early Summer. The project is free and open to public participation.

Beacon Hill Council of Seattle

North Beacon Hill Council and partner organizations are developing an online survey to poll residents regarding: a) the proposal to double the Beacon Hill urban village size in the Seattle 2035 Comprehensive Plan Update, b) the continued commitment to the 2010 Neighborhood Plan goals and c) other local issues. The DON Small and Simple grant will fund the translation, distribution and associated events to reach the 44% foreign born population who are non-English or limited English speaking.

Beacon Vision

Beacon Vision works to share the community's vision of the future Beacon Town Center with property owners and developers to create a more livable, walkable, equitable, and charming business district. During this project, Beacon Vision will work with UW students to conduct an assessment of our town center's needs, which we will then present to people who care about Beacon Hill, gather their input, and then share it with developers and other decision makers. This project will be completed by July 2018.

Friends of Broadview Thomson

Friends of Broadview Thomson will hire a landscape architecture firm to lead a design process with community input and develop a schematic design for an improved school front by July 2018. Possible improvements include brightening the face of the school building with art or murals, adding benches to the front grounds, improving walkways and pedestrian connections, and constructing a safe, efficient drop-off/pick-up area.

Friends of Broadview Thomson

Over the next several months the Friends of Broadview Thompson will engage the broader community in a project to design and hang banners on the school frontage that reflect the diverse population of the school. This neighborhood driven effort also includes a clean up of the school grounds. This effort will be completed by December.

Friends of Broadview Thomson

Friends of Broadview Thomson will work with the design firm from the earlier phase to prepare construction documents for community-prioritized improvements at the front of the school site (13052 Greenwood Ave N). Improvements to be implemented with subsequent funding would include low-maintenance landscaping, benches in plaza, banners mounted to the building to reflect school diversity, pedestrian path improvements, and a readerboard for school and community information. There will be opportunities for informal community review during this phase. Construction documents will be prepared by mid-September 2018.

Beaver Pond Friends and Neighbors

This project is a community-led effort to document neighborhood concerns about localized flooding, pedestrian accessibility, traffic congestion, and the integrity of the Beaver Pond Natural Area located at 8th Ave NE & NE 105th St. Our intent is to help the City to be responsive to the community in planning next steps.

Rainier Beach Link2Lake Open Space Steering Committee

The Rainier Beach Link2Lake Open Space Steering Committee will create a schematic design for improvements at Beer Sheva Park. Possible improvements to the park's lakeside end of the S. Henderson Street corridor include greater shoreline access, walkways, and art installations. The Steering Committee will hire a landscape architect to facilitate a community engagement process, develop the schematic design and investigate feasibility and permitting requirements.

HomeSight

Beet Box at Othello Summer Celebration will be on Saturday June 8, 2019 from 10am to 2pm at 6901 MLK Jr. Way S. The Beet Box is a pop-up space for community gathering in the Othello neighborhood providing free urban gardening and health and wellness education and resources. Homesight will host an open house to kick off summer which will be free to all with musical entertainment, crafts, and food. There will also be some horticultural exercises and nutrition education. This project will be completed by July 31, 2019.

USDA — NIFA

Grants for education, mentoring, and technical assistance programs for beginning farmers and ranchers, with emphasis on limited-resource and socially disadvantaged populations.

Belltown20|20

Belltown needs a voice that can bring clear focus, coordinated advocacy, and a stronger community identity. Belltown 20/20 will strengthen outreach efforts, branding, and support for the launch of a consolidated neighborhood leadership organization. This organization and its launch event are next steps of the Belltown 20|20 steering committee after hosting a successful, widely attended community forum funded by the NMF. This project will be completed by January 31, 2020.

Recharge the Battery

Belltown 2020 is a collaborative community event founded to introduce the Belltown community and general public to the organizations, initiatives and individuals who are working together to create a vision for the future of Belltown. Developed out of a two-year effort to listen to the people of Belltown, this event will feature ten public projects and a series of visual materials demonstrating a roadmap for future preservation and development of Belltown. Belltown 2020 will take place at the Palace Ballroom 2100 5th Avenue on Thursday September 13, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. This event and final grant reporting will be completed by October 31, 2018.

Jewelbox Theater

The Jewelbox Theater is organizing the Belltown History Celebration (BHC) on October 27, 2019 from 5:00PM-9:00PM at 2322 Second Ave. The BHC is an immersive night of live performances highlighting the past hundred years of film row, speakeasies, grunge, and more. The event is intended to take participants on a journey through time by recreating historical scenes populated by professional artists and volunteers. The event is free and open to the public.

Friends of Belltown P-Patch

The Belltown P-Patch located at 2512 Elliott Avenue has a toolshed in poor condition and in need of replacement. With this grant the gardeners will replace it with a good quality shed that will enhance both the efficiency and the aesthetics of this highly viewed structure. This project will be completed by February 28, 2020.

BF Day PTSA

In Phase 2 of playground improvements, BF Day PTSA will replace aging circa-1989 play equipment with a new play area geared towards preschoolers and younger elementary students (K-2 grades) and neighborhood children.

Chinatown International District BIA

The CIDBIA wants to connect with property owners and the Chinese community. It has been difficult to do so because of language and cultural barriers. We will hire a contractor to assist us in language and culturally appropriate connections to the Chinese community, including the family associations. This project will be completed by August 31, 2018.

Friends of Big Ass Boombox

Big Ass Boombox, (BAB), is a 2 day free local music festival on June 6th and 7th at the Sunset Tavern located at 5543 Ballard Avenue NW starting at 8:00 p.m. BAB will feature a diverse lineup of local indie artists and aims to remove as many barriers as possible from connecting great but lesser known local bands with new fans. The free and festive nature of this event allows up and coming local performers to cross-pollinate their crowds and subsequently widen their fan base and further their careers. Show-goers will connect with bands that they didn’t know existed, and makes it more likely that these folks will show up to local performances in the future. To ensure BAB is free and accessible by the public, a livestream of the event will be available through a link provided in all event marketing materials. This project will be completed by July 30, 2025.

Associated Recreation Council

We are requesting support for the 17th annual Big Day of Play (BDOP). BDOP is hosted annually by Seattle Parks & Recreation and will be held on Aug. 17, 2024, from 12-5pm at Rainier Playfields & Mt. Baker Rowing & Sailing Center. BDOP is a free event where families and individuals come together to enjoy a day filled with activities, games, inflatables, a basketball tournament, block party, vendor wellness fair, and live performances. Activities throughout the day will engage children, adults, seniors, and families while fostering community relations and healthy lifestyle opportunities. The goals of this community event include improving health outcomes, expanding relationships with underserved communities, and removing barriers to access, opportunity, and resources in Seattle communities, with an emphasis on underserved communities. BDOP features demonstrations, family activities, educational resources, games, entertainment, and culturally diverse food from local small businesses.

Bicycle Security Advocates

The Bicycle Registration Campaign during Bike Month May 2018, will encourage proper locking techniques and encourage people to register their bicycles. The registration campaign will coordinate the efforts of several partners and their volunteers, including the police department, the transportation department, city councilmembers, non-profit bicycle organizations, and bike shops. This project will be completed by June 29, 2018.

Black and Tan Project

On October 1st and 2nd of 2022, the Black and Tan Community Group will commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the opening of The Black and Tan Nightclub, at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center. At the time, the first and only interracial nightclub in The Pacific Northwest. This historical event will consist of Two live performances will be held at the LHPAI followed by a reception. Our group is focused on bringing Arts, Culture and Theatre to the community free of charge! The event is free and open to the public.

Joe Brazil Legacy Coalition

The Joe Brazil Legacy Coalition is bringing jazz musicians together to celebrate the Honorable Joseph Brazil for what would have been his 94th. birthday. This event will be a reunion of Mr. Brazil's students and alumni from his jazz music programs in Seattle at Garfield High School, the University of Washington, and the Black Academy of Music. This event will be from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on August 21, 2021 at the Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Center located at 104 17th Ave S. This project will be completed by October 29, 2021.
