Tasveer

Tasveer will organize a symposium focused on filmmakers and storytellers of South Asian origin. It will include demonstrations, panel discussions, and film screenings to highlight themes relevant to the South Asian community. It will take place September 30, October 1, and October 2, 2019 at Northwest Film Forum located at 1515 12th Ave.

Team of N 137th Street Residents

Team 137 will work with SDOT to implement pedestrian safety and traffic calming improvements. These improvements include wheel stops installed by SDOT and the Seattle Conservation Corps to separate traffic from pedestrians, a walking path on the south side of N. 137th between North Park Ave. N. and the top of the hill just to the east, and the creation of a no-parking zone at the top of the hill. Community volunteers will plant and build the path by the end of summer in 2018 and then maintain the landscaped areas.

Seattle Sensory Garden Steering Committee

Friends of Seattle Sensory Garden plans to install temporary signs to help people with disabilities to understand and engage with the garden during this growing/blooming season. The garden is located at 700 N 50th St, Seattle, WA. The signage will help people without disabilities to understand how people WITH disabilities see and experience the natural world. The anticipated project completion date is June 30, 2021.

Eastlake Tennis Revival

The Eastlake Tennis Revival community group aims to resurface and repair the tennis courts at Rogers Playground located at 2516 Eastlake Ave E in the Eastlake neighborhood. The projects goal is to provide a safer play environment for tennis, while promoting a stronger, healthier and active community that serves many disadvantaged communities by giving equitable access to public tennis facilities. The project will be completed in the Fall of 2023.

First Hill Improvement Association

We seek to engage community stakeholders of First Hill in the process of redesigning Terry Avenue between Cherry and Marion Streets. FHIA secured $4 million for the redevelopment of Terry Avenue from the Community Package Coalition, the public mitigation funding for the street and alleyway vacations to build the Washington State Convention Center addition. This mitigation funding is restricted to only construction activities, so FHIA is seeking funding from the Neighborhood Matching Fund for the design of the Terry Avenue redevelopment.

Tet in Seattle

Tet in Seattle will organize the annual Tet in Seattle Festival, a free event that celebrates the cultural roots of Vietnamese Americans through recognizing the Lunar New Year. The two- day festival will be held Saturday, January 18, and Sunday January 19, 2020 from 11am to 6pm at Seattle Center (305 Harrison St). It will feature a health fair, art, music, entertainment, and foods that are unique to the Vietnamese Community.

The Art of Music Project Committee

The Art of Music (AOM) project is designed to provide a series of 18 free admission musical performances that complement & coincide with the June through December Second Thursday Art Walk evenings in the West Seattle (WS). Performances run from 6 to 7:45 pm (with one break). AOM aspires to add value to the WS Art Walk & to benefit merchants, Art Walk attendees, artists, and musicians.

Black Power Unlimited

We need AIR to speak! The BPU Artist in Residence (BPU AIR) project is designed to amplify the voices and experiences of Black, brown, Indigenous, QTBIPOC, and youth (13-24) artists. We as artists have historically been marginalized and underrepresented in the arts and culture world. To address these challenges, BPU AIR will provide the space, support, and resources we need to create, display, and amplify our art and stories, cultivate community, and build sustainable careers. As part of the project, BPU AIR will participate in the monthly Central District First Friday Art Walk events. The first event will be on March 6th from 6-9 pm at Washington Hall located at 153 14th Ave, 1st Floor, Seattle, WA. The events are free and open to the public.

Southeast Seattle Senior Foundation

The Brighton Community Design Project at the Brighton Apartments in Southeast Seattle will lead residents, staff, Board, neighbors, and community partners through a dynamic process to imagine, design, and select a long-term capital improvement plan for the exterior community spaces on the property.

Renaissance 21

Renaissance 21 will run a 10-week after school program at Garfield Teen Life Center located at 428 23rd Avenue. The program will train 10-12 youth to develop mobile and desktop websites. In addition to paid instructors, STEM professionals, college, and high school volunteers will serve as mentors to the program participants. This project will be completed by January 31, 2020.

Renaissance 21

Renaissance 21 will pilot a 10-week after school program that will train 10 youth to develop mobile/desktop game and website applications. STEM professional, college, and high school volunteers will also serve as mentors to the program participants.

The Community Outreach Challenge Steering Committee

The Community Outreach Challenge is a three day fitness challenge with the first two days, June 28-29th being spent at Camp Long on the 4-H Challenge Course learning teamwork and decision making. On June 30th, the youth will host a fitness challenge at a local sports complex for their parents and other members of the community, resulting in a fun filled day for everyone.

The Feels

The Feels Annual Showcase brings diverse creatives and communities together as a safe, inclusive experience. The art exhibit, vendor market, panel discussion and live musical show will be a one-day event on February 23rd from 6pm to 10pm at AXIS Pioneer Square located at 308 1st Ave S Seattle WA. The event will also stream online.

The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation

The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation ($300M in assets) supports nonprofits in WA through grants focused on education, community development, health, arts. Awards range from $2,000 to $75,000.

Walk Away City Collaborative

The (High On Purpose Experience) H.O.P.E. concert featuring spoken word, poetic expression, music and dance performances by youth, will be held on Thursday, October 5th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at The Rainier Arts Center, 3515 South Alaska Street. All performing art forms will be focused on the theme of sobriety. A team of youth interns will assist in the planning and outreach for the event.

Rainier Valley Historical Society

The Hillman City Heritage Bell Mural Installation and Celebration Project aims to permanently install the Hillman City Heritage Bell on the corner of Rainier Ave. S and S Findlay Street. This project involves compensating a landscape contractor for the installation, which will culminate in an unveiling and dedication at the Hillman City Block Party on August 10, 2024. The purpose of the Hillman City Heritage Bell is to educate the public about the diverse history of Hillman City through vibrant art. Mural artist Cathy Fields transformed a 115-year-old church bell into a visual narrative depicting the cultural diversity of Rainier Valley, highlighting indigenous peoples, early pioneers, a streetcar scene, and Mrs. Fumiko M. Noji, illustrating the area's unique history as a welcoming home for immigrant populations.

Hillman City Restorative Justice Committee

The Hillman City Restorative Justice Project will build community capacity by organizing twelve free monthly workshops about Restorative Justice. They will be held at the Hillman City Collaboratory located at 5623 Rainier Ave S. Neighbors, businesses, youth and others will learn Restorative Justice practices that will help them resolve conflict and strengthen community relationships. The project will transform the current tensions in our community to a spirit and practice of unity.

Magnolia Chamber of Commerce

This grant will fund Phase 2 of the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce mural project that was developed during 2017 with a 2017 NMF award. The mural project will enhance Magnolia Village's downtown core by painting a vibrant, interactive mural integrating art designs from neighbor school children, with a culminating community celebration event. The content of the mural is based on representing groups of three different species birds flocking together: A visual metaphor of innovative collaboration and interaction that many parts make a whole.

It Takes a Village

The Middle Passage Healing Project will foster unity among African American and East Africans communities through events such as Culture Fest, outreach sessions and cultural immersion healing circles. The community events will include digital storytelling, dance performances, visual art, musical entertainment, jewelry making, and sharing cultural recipes.

The Neighborhood Exchange is a series of events that share the impact of community coalitions shaping Seattle through community-based design projects. The series will connect community members throughout Seattle to each other and to community advocates from design professions. The events create opportunities for participants to explore projects on-site and exchange strategies and resources for implementing projects to improve quality of life in their neighborhoods.

ADEFUA Cultural Education Workshop

The ODUNDE Festival, hosted by ADEFUA in collaboration with the community group `Friends of ADEFUA,` is a vibrant celebration of African culture and heritage. This project encompasses a rich array of the social Odunde-Odunde Music and Dancical presented by local and special guest artists to celebrate in community with the hosted African music and dance inter-active showcases, and an African Marketplace featuring arts, crafts, and food from various West African countries. The festival includes a silent auction, an Artist Meet and Greet Reception, serving an array of Desserts and a Wine Corner that highlights local African-owned wineries and Bakeries. Through these activities, the festival aims to educate, inspire, and provide a space for meaningful cultural engagement. Odunde Festival 2024, Kicks off ADEFUA'S 40th year of being. Several cultural artists and groups are a part of the annual production, ''Evolution of Culture in Community''.

Power of Rage

A one-day event highlighting art, entertainment and food, including an indoor street fair will be held on Sunday March 8, 2020 at historic Washington Hall, 153 14th Avenue from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. The program will feature local performers, visual artists, artisans, informational tabling from community organizations, and culinary delights provided by local pop-up restaurant chefs. This event is intended to promote acceptance of cultural, social, physical and racial differences while promoting civic participation.

Pritchard Beach Waterfront Center Project

Demand for water-dependent programming in SE Seattle is strong. This diverse community deserves safe ACCESS to the unique asset at its back door: Lake Washington. Current Pritchard Beach bathhouse facilities located at 8400 55th Ave S Seattle WA are little used but offer excellent potential as a site for a waterfront center like those at Green Lake or Mt. Baker. This project seeks to create a welcoming, inclusive, fully ADA accessible community boating center that will allow more people, but in particular youth, to experience the mental and physical benefits of recreating & competing in the outdoors, safe access for all, and a variety of programs with material health and academic benefits for youth. Phase I of the project will focus on a community engagement process to document the demand for repurposing the bathhouse and prepare proposals for Phase II. The anticipated project completion date is January 31, 2026.
