Say Yes! Year End Visioning Event Team

Say Yes! is a free and open to the public, community-centered visioning experience created to empower Black women in Seattle to reclaim their time, energy, and joy. The event will be on December 28, 2025, at McKinney Center located at 120 S. Jackson Street, Seattle, WA 98144. This gathering offers a safe and affirming space to pause, dream, and declare what’s next through storytelling, reflection, and creative visioning. Participants are guided to say “yes” to themselves, their healing, and their power while connecting with other women committed to growth and collective thriving. Each woman will leave with a personalized vision board — a visual map to guide her intentions, goals, and well-being throughout 2026. By nurturing self-worth and connection, Say Yes! strengthens the foundation for Black women to lead, create, and live with purpose and joy, that will ripple empowerment throughout their families and neighborhoods.

Tasveer

Tasveer will be conducting a three day filmmaking workshop starting October 16 - 18 from 6pm to 10pm located at 1515 12th Ave. The workshops will be conducted with the idea of presenting the South Asian perspective. The participants will learn details, the how's, and whys of making documentaries. No prior equipment experience is required. It will be open and free to all.

Seattle Acoustic Festival

The Seattle Acoustic Festival group will host a free two-day festival to highlight acoustic music in Seattle. The event will bring together musicians, artists, and other community members to experience live music together. The festival will be held at All Pilgrims Christian Church located at 500 Broadway Ave E. It will take place on August 24, 2018 from 7 pm - 11:30 pm and on August 25, 2018 from 2 pm - 11:30 pm.

Seattle AIDS Legacy Memorial

The proposed In-reach Initiative will engage communities of color who have been disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS in cultivating narratives that speak to their collective sense of loss, trauma, rage, courage, and triumph. These stories and oral histories will be celebrated in a capstone event planned for December of 2018.

Show Your Art

This project is an art walk info session series hosted by Sarah Miller of Show Your Art and Art Walk representatives in three neighborhoods in Seattle. The Downtown Art Walk session will be held at Slip Gallery, 2301 1st Ave, the Uptown Art Walk session will be held at Fishbowl Gallery, 424 2nd Ave W Suite #330, and the Wallingford Art Walk session location is yet to be determined. These free in-person sessions will give artists hands-on guidance with navigating the local Art Walk landscape including talking directly to venue owners, Art Walk representatives, and networking opportunities with other artists. Attendees will learn how to approach venues, understand submission criteria, and build visibility among their peers, all while activating and highlighting participating businesses. Each session connects artists with peers, builds neighborhood cultural density, and promotes accessibility within Seattle’s vibrant art ecosystem. This project will be completed by March 31, 2026.

Seattle City of Literature

In March 2023, Seattle will host the annual Association of Writers and Writing Programs conference, which drew 14,000 people to Seattle in 2014. Seattle City of Literature administers Seattle's UNESCO Creative City of Literature designation and wants to activate Seattle's writing and reading community ahead of this momentous event. To do that, we want to show everyone what it means to be a City of Literature, including printing a free literary map of Seattle for the city, hosting a free Indigenous writers reading with Hugo House, and reaching out to Seattle's literary organizations to compile a printed and digital list of Seattle-centric events. This project will be completed by June 30, 2023.

Seattle Community Puppet Day

Seattle Community Puppet day is being coordinated by a collection of Seattle-based puppet artists to welcome visiting puppeteers from across the Pacific Northwest as they attend the Puppeteers of America Pacific Northwest Regional Festival and will partner with them to provide a neighborhood clean-up, free arts and cultural activities for the public, and a local community fair event. Together with members of the public, they will clean up litter over Capitol Hill on Saturday, August 6th 9:30-11:30 a.m. before welcoming the community to a FREE fun-filled community fair at Seattle Central College, 1701 Broadway, at noon. The fair will provide free performances, arts and crafts activities, local tabling, and more! This project will be completed by September 30, 2022.

Saturday Sewing Sisters

The Seattle Saturday Sewing Sisters Sewing Circle will organize a series of community workshops located in various locations throughout the city. The workshops will provide the opportunity for Seattle residents from all socioeconomic backgrounds to come together to build relationships, and foster community building in a supporting and nurturing environment. There will be various creative activities and community building exercises that are free and open for all to participate. This project will be completed by December 2018.

Design in Public

This year, the Seattle Design Festival will expand the reach of the Seattle Design Festival beyond the downtown core and Pioneer Square. We will invite neighborhood groups, residents, business owners, and community organizers to participate in the festival in their own neighborhoods and celebrate neighborhood identity through design. This project will be completed by January 31, 2020.

The Seattle Globalist

Partner with four after-school programs that serve diverse, low-income and at-risk youth to offer training in media literacy and production. Provide two intensive media production camps and develop a new apprenticeship program where youth will work side by side with journalists.

Seattle Flying Dragon Boat Club

The Seattle Dragon Boat Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026 located at Lake Union Park. 860 Terry Ave N. as a celebration of Asian sport and culture! The traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival, commemorates the ancient poet Qu Yuan. The festival is hosted by the Seattle Flying Dragon Boat Club, whose mission is to further awareness and participation in the sport of dragon boating. Dragon boat clubs from WA, OR, Canada, and perhaps Hong Kong or Taiwan will register for the races. This will be an all-day event, that is free and open to the public.

Seattle Hoodoo Society

Led by the Seattle Hoodoo Society, Altared Roots, and Sacred Community Connection, the Seattle Hoodoo Arts and Culture Festival is Seattle’s first annual no-cost celebration of the African-American healing tradition of Hoodoo and its role in Black culture. Attendees will learn about the tradition, how Hoodoo has served as a tool of survival in the Black community spanning over 400 years, and be immersed in local artists’ expression of this resilience. The festival is on November 15th from 12 - 5 pm at the Yehaw Indigenous Creatives Collective located at 9666 51st Ave S. The festival will feature artists and performers showcasing art rooted in the Hoodoo tradition, healers who will offer traditional services to the community free-of-charge, and workshops that further educate people on this practice and its history. While this event centers the Black community, all are welcome to learn about this rich and vibrant tradition. This project will be completed by 1/31/26.

Seattle Latino Film Festival

The 2017 Seattle Latino Film Festival will host three free events. The first is the screening of Anida and the Floating Circus from Argentina and directed to our children's audience at the Varsity Theater on October 8, 2017. The second is a panel on Latin-American Women in Film who will discuss issues facing women filmmakers on October 11, 2017 at the University of Washington. The third event on October 12, 2017 at Seattle University is a collaboration with The Guanajuato International Film Festival of Mexico and will screen seven short documentaries produced by universities in Mexico.

Rainier Valley Corps

Somos Seattle is hosting the third Latinx Pride festival at El Centro de La Raza 2524 16th Ave S on July 20th, 2019. This event will celebrate and gather the Latinx LGBTQ community in Seattle and the Northwest. This event will create visibility for people with intersecting LGBTQ and Latinx identities, who are often invisibilized within mainstream as well as ethnic and LGBTQ communities. Holding the event at a historic location such as El Centro allows people to learn history, feel empowered, and connect with people with shared experiences.

Seattle Martin Luther King Jr. Organizing Coalition

For the past 41 years, the Seattle MLK Coalition has organized a rally program and march to commemorate the MLK Monday Holiday in January. There are workshops on social issues in classrooms, a career and opportunity fair, tabling by community groups, program in the gym with presenters and performers, a march to downtown or other location, community meal and wrap-up rally. In recent years we have also added a youth intern program, and they plan a youth event on the Sunday before these events, participate in planning the Holiday activities and lead the march. The event will be held on January 20, 2025 at Garfield High School located at 400 23rd Ave Seattle WA 98122. The event is free and open to the public

Seattle Out and Proud Foundation

Seattle Pride in the Park is a free, inclusive event that launches Pride Month with a celebration of LGBTQIA+ culture, resilience, and community. In 2024, we welcomed 12,000+ attendees, hosted 80+ vendor booths (80% LGBTQIA2S+ owned, 40% BIPOC owned), and featured 18 local performers, injecting $14,000 into the local talent community. We partnered with 7 community organizations to provide targeted resources, including a Low Sensory Zone, an Elder Legacy Lounge, and a Youth Space led by Pride interns. Our impact is tangible: 96% of attendees plan to return, and vendors rated their experience 4.9/5 stars. We strategically increased accessibility, equity, and economic opportunities through our event in the neighborhood. Seattle Pride in the Park isn’t just an event—it’s a movement, fostering connection, visibility, and action for LGBTQIA+ rights in the Pacific Northwest.

Seattle Repertory Theatre

On December 10, 2021, Seattle Rep's Public Works department will produce a virtual event featuring Lear DeBessonet and Todd Almond?s musical adaptation of THE WINTER'S TALE in collaboration with a group of up to eight community partners. Rooted in the values of equity, imagination, and joy, this project will advance arts equity and provide arts access to communities that have historically been excluded from the arts by using theater as a tool for equity and inclusion. The virtual event will be free and expect to reach at least 2,000 households on both a local and national scale. Project completion date will be February 28, 2022.

Seattle Repertory Theatre

On August 25-27, 2023, Seattle Rep's Public Works department will produce a live stage production of Lear deBessonet and Todd Almond's musical adaptation of Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST in collaboration with a group of ten community partners.

Seattle Sensory Garden

These funds will be used to upgrade an existing sign in the garden. Additional Braille content will make the sign more durable to touch and resistant to weather. This is part of our efforts to expand community partnerships to invite more BIPOC groups, persons with disabilities, and those needing the garden's grace.

Seattle Sister Cities Association

The Sister Cities Signpost is intended to increase awareness of Seattle's Sister City Program and its position as a global city by having a piece of public art that would showcase the names of each of Seattle's Sister Cities. The design includes sign blades made in colors that will blend in with the Seattle sunset while also providing an attractive piece of public art that will be a colorful contrast against our often-grey skies. The anticipated project completion date is December 31, 2025.

NewHolly Leadership Board

On August 12 from 10am to 5pm the NewHolly Leadership Board will host the Seattle Teen Summit at NewHolly Hall at 7054 32nd Avenue S. The Teen Summits goal is to empower, engage, and equip young leaders around social justice, service leadership, personal development, employment and education. The event is free and open for all to attend.

Somali Community Services of Seattle

Somali Community Services of Seattle will organize a free and open tutoring program for elementary and middle school students from January to June 2019. Approximately 35 youth will work with approximately 18 tutors from the UW and broader community. In addition, there will be a series of four open community workshops on topics including study skills and parenting students. It is the goal of this project to build community connections and skills in education.
