We propose to host a native plant sale in October 2025, to engage residents and disperse new native plants into neighborhood yards. Separate from the plant sale, we will purchase native plants with NMF grant funds to be planted by volunteers in Fairview Park and other areas in the neighborhood. The project will increase community engagement in addition to improving native plant habitat in the neighborhood. The anticipated project completion date is March 31, 2026.

Rhapsody Roots Music Class

Rhapsody Project instructors will collaborate with a diverse set of Seattle musicians and educators to design curriculum and deliver a weekly roots music class to 30 youth during a 10 week period between September and December of 2018 at the Hillman City Collaboratory. The project will culminate in a free community concert in December. Students will be offered a stipend for attending the classes, completing a guided independent study in the spring of 2019 and for their participation in the concert.

The Residency will be hosting the 2025 Satellite Show Series. There will be three free live music performances featuring young artists and alumni from the residency. Hosted at Midtown Square located at 2301 E Union St. on August 23rd, and at the Vera Project located at 305 Harrison St on December 20th. The third event is March 21, 2026 at Washington Hall located at 153 14th Ave. These events will showcase emerging artists, foster community engagement, and provide professional performance opportunities for Black and Brown musicians. The project will be led by a youth-centered leadership team, with support from The Residency’s staff, and volunteers. The events are free and open to the public.
