Rainier Beach Community Club

This project will replace three large single-pane windows with modern double-pane windows that keep cold air out in the winter. This is the continuation of a project to make the building more useful to the community. The hall is a much-loved community asset. The anticipated project completion date is February 28, 2025.

Tilth Alliance

This project will organize community work parties where participants engage in hands-on experiences while learning about organic food production. These events will feature educational demonstrations focusing on cultivating culturally relevant foods and sustainable agricultural practices. Participants will actively work in the greenhouse, taking part in tasks such as planting, harvesting, and crop maintenance. The work parties will teach skills in self-sufficiency, from seed starting to soil management, fostering empowerment and pride in growing food and land stewardship. By celebrating culturally significant foods, the project promotes food sovereignty, environmental sustainability, and community well-being. These hands-on experiences will create stronger connections among community members, helping them access fresh, nutritious, and culturally meaningful produce while building a sense of collective pride and food security. The anticipated project completion date is July 31, 2026.

Hakfen Media

Hakfen Media along with the Tigrean Community Association located at 1902 E Yesler Way. Will be hosting a series of community led activities such as talking circles, digital trainings and community engagement. The purpose of such activities is to re-engage, remobilize and strengthen the Tigrean community that has been affected by COVID, and civil war in the home country. The project is free and open to all who want to participate. The project will be completed in the Fall of 2022.

Reckoning Trades Project

The Reckoning Trades Project will organize women and LGBTQ trades workers by building support systems, hosting educational forums, and organizing social events. The project will include networking and community building by connecting women and LGBTQ trades workers to resources, support, development opportunities, and one another. The group will host 7 community socials, 2 educational community forums, 8 public meetings, and a retreat.

CID-CD

The CID-CD Neighbors propose to develop and test Redlining History and Culture Trail Walks linking the Chinatown International District, First Hill, and Central District, launch free guided walks, and produce lasting interpretive display panels, outreach materials, brochures, and a webpage.

Black Farmers Collective

The Black Farmers Collective aims to reimagine an urban landscape located at 715 Yesler Way that serves as an Urban Farm and Forestry in the Heart of Seattle that embodies inclusivity by dreaming-into-being a space for all to benefit from. This will be accomplished by advancing Civic Engagement, Socioeconomic Mixing, Environmental Sustainability and Value Creation. The project is free and open to community participation. The project will be completed in the fall of 2026.

Pacific Northwest Black Pioneers

In the early 1970's a dinner invitation went out from long time Black Seattle residents Arline and Letcher Yarbrough to eight couples who had been close friends thirty and forty years before, seeing each other frequently and sharing many interests. The more recent years found them scattered and out of touch. The response to the invitation was excellent. All who were still living in the Seattle area accepted; eager to see old friends again. The result of that gathering was the foundation for Relative of Old Timers (ROOTS) Celebration. This year, ROOTS is celebrating 52 years on Sunday, September 1, 2024 from 10am-6pm. The committee has decided that 2024 will be the last year that we will host this large public celebration. We plan to sunset this event by honoring our elder leaders of the Civil Rights Movement in the Pacific Northwest as well as the sense of community this celebration has meant to Black Seattleites over the years. We are seeking NMF funding to do just that.

Republican P-Patch

The awarded funds will be used by Republican P-Patch to build a new fence, repair the leaky shed, replace broken garden tools, design educational signage, and rebuild the dilapidated compost bins. These improvements will make the P-Patch better neighbors, better stewards of the soil, and create a more welcoming space for the community. This project is located at 503 20th Ave E and will be completd by July 31, 2020.

Republican P-Patch

The Republican P-Patch will use the awarded funds to purchase items for phase 2 of the Republican P-Patch site improvements project. This includes purchasing a new picnic table for our gathering area, creating new signage, hosting an open house community gathering, replacing broken tools, purchasing new soil for community demonstration beds and replacing cedar play chips in the community paths to ensure easy accessibility by all. This project will be completed by July 29, 2022.

Friends of Republican P-Patch

We will use the awarded funds to purchase items for phase 3 of the Republican P-Patch site improvements project. This includes building additional dahlia beds for our communal flower garden, purchasing dahlias, purchasing additional plants for our existing communal / demo beds, creating new signage, hosting an open house / community gathering, replacing broken tools, purchasing new soil for community / demo beds and pruning of our large garden trees to enhance community picnic table seating area. The anticipated project completion date is May 31, 2025.

Residential Reentry Center (RRC) Services and Home Confinement Services Located Within King County, Washington

Restaurant 2 Garden

Restaurant 2 Garden is a composting and vermiculture project in the Nihonmachi (Japantown) region of the Chinatown International District (C-ID). We are transforming local restaurant food waste into safe, healthy, usable compost for the gardeners in the Danny Woo Community Garden located at 620 South Main Street. The restaurants currently involved are Itsumono and Panama Cafe, both located in the block immediately south of the Danny Woo Community Garden. By making the process easy and convenient for restaurant owners, and by providing high quality fertilizer for the gardeners, we are decreasing our neighborhood's ecological footprint, increasing food security, educating youth and the greater public about food waste and nutrient cycling, and strengthening neighborhood relationships. This project will be completed by July 29,2022.

Paisley Place Homeowners Association

Our project will revitalize the medians on Paisley Pl NE and the associated parking strips on Paisley Dr NE, all owned by the Paisley Pl NE Home Owners Association. This grant proposal asks for funding for Phase 1 of that effort, the partial restoration of the north and center medians on Paisley Pl. Several factors have contributed to make these measures necessary. (1) Birch trees were originally planted in the center median; they succumbed to birch borer damage, died and were consequently removed. The median is now barren. (2) The north median isn't as barren, but still needs additional landscaping. (3) Both medians require soil supplements to improve nutrition and drainage.

Paisley Place Association

Thie Paisley Place Homeowners Association will continue the restoration of two of the medians on Paisley Pl NE. This phase will (1) add mulch to prevent weed seeds from growing and that will eventually improve both drainage and nutrition; (2) continue the planting of ground cover and Trees for Neighborhoods trees, plus additional plants; and (3) incorporate a path through the larger of the two medians. This project will be completed by June 30, 2025.
