Seattle Poetry Slam

Seattle Poetry Slam will host an all-ages three-day celebration of LGBTQ arts and community on December 8-10 at Capitol Hill venues. The Queer Resurgence on Capitol Hill Poetry Festival will include panel discussions, workshops, and a poetry slam competition. Seattle Poetry Slam will partner with key organizations like Seattle Spit (Seattle's only LGBTQ open mic) and Gay City (Seattle's LGBTQ Center).

Skate Like A Girl and Youth Employment Skateboarding (YES)

A free and open community gathering will be hosted at Cal Anderson Courts, 1635 11th Avenue, on Saturday, May 4th from 4-10pm. The event will create space for, celebrate, and affirm queer and trans skateboarders as part of Skate Like a Girl's Wheels of Fortune Weekend. The event will feature music, a skate jam, and prizes for attendees.

Refugee Artisan Initiative

RAI will be hosting an artisan-led RAI Holiday Elves WorkSHOP! in collaboration with Lake City community partners, Children's Home Society of Washington (CHSW), Build Lake City Together (BLCT), Thriftology, and Coyote North, and the help of our strong volunteer community to continue to introduce North Seattle to RAI artisans (refugee and immigrant women). The event will be on December 7, 2022 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm located at 12337 Lake City Way NE. Artisan's handmade crafts will be available and during the event, two to three artisans will demonstrate their sewing skills by offering a `mending and embellishment session` with community members to bedazzle clothing or upcycle holiday ornaments using products from Thriftology, Lake City's local thrift store. There will also offer fabric card-making using upcycled fabric to design holiday cards that guests can take home. This project will be completed by February 28, 2023.

Refugee Artisan Initiative

RAI will host the RAI Holiday Work(shop) in Lake City on December 9th from 5-7 p.m. This is a free buy local event at our Lake City makerspace located at 12545 Lake City Way NE. Guests will meet our refugee and immigrant women Artisans during makerspace tours and various crafting workshops that will demonstrate the skills of our Artisans. Capacity is limited to 10 occupants who will sign up in advance for a 30 - 45 minute time slot, but the demonstrations will be recorded and edited for public access and posted on the RAI website and social media. RAI Holiday Work(shop) in Lake City will elevate awareness about reducing garment industry waste, show the public how RAI Artisans divert textile waste from landfills, and demonstrate that RAI is a welcoming and safe workplace for immigrant and refugee women, a place that has become a cultural hub in Lake City. This project will be completed by January 31,2022.

Capacity is 50, but the training will be recorded and edited for public access and posted on RAI's website and social media. Rainier Beach Action Coalition

This event is for the benefit of our neighborhood youth and families, and with the support of some amazing volunteers, local businesses, and community organizations. The Back2School Bash has historically been a day of celebration and gathering for neighborhood families, full of music, laughter, and giving. We distribute free backpacks, school supplies, food, books, clothing, and information about neighborhood resources.

Rainier Beach Link2Lake Open Space Steering Committee

The Rainier Beach Link 2 Lake committee has engaged in a community driven reimagining of Be'er Sheva Park for the last 8 years and construction has finally started on the park. As the park construction process proceeds this summer and into the fall, we are planning a major community outreach event, the 3rd Annual Rainier Beach Grill Off Competition! This event brings together more than 150 residents for a fun, family friendly, community focused event that ends with the Grill Master of Rainier Beach. This event is even more important for community engagement this year in particular, as much of the usual high density hang outs at the park are fenced up. This event will ensure regular park users and community have an opportunity to be with one another, learn about construction progress and engage in some healthy competition.

Rainier Beach Link2Lake

The Rainier Beach Link2Lake Open Space Steering Committee will be hosting the 5th Annual Rainier Beach Grill Off Competition at Be'er Sheva Park on August 24, 2025. The Grill-Off Competition is an opportunity to bring the community together for a fun, family friendly event. This event is free and open to the public, bringing residents together for a community focused event that ends with a winning Grill Master of Rainier Beach. This project will be completed by September 30, 2025.

Rainier Beach Community Club

The Rainier Beach Community Club will purchase chairs to replace old chairs and expand the capacity of its building (6038 S Pilgrim St) to host community events and meetings. They will host a community event to inaugurate the chairs and celebrate the end of summer on Saturday, September 1, 4-7pm. Food and drinks will be provided to encourage neighbors to socialize.

Rainier Beach Community Club

The Rainier Beach Community Club will have a series of work parties starting on September 8th through October 7th that will take place at 6038 S Pilgrim St. The aim of the project is to do site improvements to the almost 100 year old building that serves as a neighborhood hub to the Rainier Beach community. There will be interior and exterior painting along with some landscaping of the grounds. The site improvements will provide a welcoming well-kept facility, which the Rainier Beach community will hopefully use for another 100 years.

Replace three old picture windows approximately 85x22.5 with modern windows that keeps cold air out in the winter and can be opened in the summer to allow cooler air in. Currently the hall is seldom used in the summer because it is too hot. The building has no air conditioning and the current windows cannot be opened.

Rainier Beach Jazz Jams is a neighborhood project that provides an opportunity for local musicians and vocalists to engage with other musicians, neighbors and friends in a once a month live Jazz Jam session. It is FREE to the public and residents of the Rainier Beach neighborhood that enjoy live music are invited to attend. It is open to adults and youth. A House Band comprised partially of volunteer musicians provides the musical support.

Friends of a Rainier Beach Streatery at Jude's

Friends of a Rainier Beach Streatery at Jude's will construct Rainier Beach's first streatery this fall in the public right-of-way in front of Jude's Old Town neighborhood bar. With a bicycle and edible garden theme, the streatery will be a point of pride and identification for the neighborhood and engage the bicycling community, especially riders along the Lake Washington loop. It will also serve as a hub for youth-focused community events.

Friends of Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands

The Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands committee (RBUFW) will renovate two existing greenhouses that lack capacity for food production. Over the next ten months the work accomplished will include installation of thermostatically controlled sidewalls and solar array panels, soil remediation, construction of new raised beds and permitting.

SHAG Community Life Foundation

The SHAG Community Life Foundation and SouthEast Effective Development (SEED) will host The Rainier Court Festival on September 16, 2017, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 3642 33rd Ave S. This grass roots celebration will bring together the residents of the Dakota, Rainier Court and the Columbia Gardens along with neighbors from Mt Baker and Genesee to celebrate the rich diversity of the community. There will be food and drink along with many activities for all to enjoy.

Friends of Rainier Valley Creative District

The Friends of Rainer Valley Creative District are hosting the 2023 Rainier Valley Community Arts Resource Fair (Arts Resource Fair) will take place on Sunday, August 20, 2023 in Columbia Park (located at the north end of Rainier Valley) from 11AM to 7PM. This is a full day multi-purpose event that will provide arts, culture, education, health, legal, housing, and business resources to the general public with a particular focus on the needs of creative businesses in the Rainier Valley.

Neighborhood House

Provide 10 computers, serving residents ages 3-93. Offer activities specifically designed to meet the needs of the low-income residents in Rainier Vista, including children, adults, limited-English proficient adults, seniors and people with disabilities

Neighborhood House

Provide linked technology and ESL instruction using the Integrated Basic Education Skills Training (I-BEST) model with instructors co-teaching. This is a partnership with Seattle Central Community College and Literacy Council. This will help residents work in fields that earn higher wages and require more advanced skills.

Ravenna Community Garden

The Ravenna Community Garden group will improve two beds at the Ravenna Community Garden located at 6535 Ravenna Ave NE. Over the years roots from a nearby tree have invaded most of the beds.The Project will involve renovating one low bed and one high raised bed. Once completed this will allow the group to evaluate their options and help them decide future renovations at the garden. This project will be completed in early spring of 2022.

Gardeners of Hilllman City P-Patch

To honor Rangkham Praseurt, the matriarch of our Hillman City P-patch we will build a memorial garden located at 46th Avenue South and South Lucile Street. The Hillman City P-Patch will build a raised flower garden for the community with seating, a gravel pathway, and a memorial plaque, with Laotian design accents. This projuect will be completed by September 30, 2019.

Ravenna South Emergency Communications Hub

We are building community around the issue of preparedness. Our team is following the model of the Seattle Emergency Communication Hubs. We will... 1. Host a Hands-on Skills Fair to teach all households to be more resilient 2. Purchase the gear most useful to respond to a disaster in south Ravenna and house it in Ravenna Park 3. Host a Grand Opening to demonstrate to the community how the Hub works and how they can engage. 4. Continue to build our team of volunteers and engage ALL our neighbors to help them be better prepared in the event of a disaster

Friends of Ravenna-Cowen

Friends of Ravenna-Cowen, FORC, will conduct outreach and host a public meeting to get input on the design and location of historic district signs indicating arrival at entry points to the new Ravenna-Cowen North National Historic District. The signs will be fabricated and installed by the City of Seattle Department of Transportation on up to 11 street modular sign standards. FORC will host a community celebrations when the signs have been installed. This project will be completed by June 28, 2019.

Rainier Beach Community Empowerment Coalition dba Rainier Beach Action Coalition

Rainier Beach Action Coalition hosts a 4-hour community-building event at Rainier Beach Community Center to empower local youth and families. This year’s event will be hosted at the Rainier Beach Community Center, located at 8825 Rainier Ave S Seattle WA on Saturday, August 23 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event unites community groups, businesses, service providers, and residents to support youth and highlight their importance to Rainier Beach's future. Its goal is to boost school retention, accessibility, and economic mobility by enhancing community involvement in schools, mentorship, and family support programs. Free nutritious food, school supplies, and haircuts are also provided, ensuring youth are ready for school. This collaborative event strengthens a supportive network for youth, families, and educators, paving the way for academic success and long-term community growth.

This project will replace four large single-pane windows with modern double-pane windows that keep cold air out in the winter. This is a continuation of a project to make the building more useful to the community. The hall is a much-loved community asset located at 6038 S Pilgrim, Seattle WA 98118. The anticipated completion date is January 30, 2026
