Casa Latina

This project will engage the community in a series of conversations to help determine how Casa Latina can best continue to serve Latino immigrants in the coming years. This project will hold a series of community stakeholder conversations help determine how our services will best serve the community in the coming years.

International Capoeira Angola Foundation - Seattle

Over the next 12 months the International Capoeira Angola Foundation will host a series of monthly events to showcase cultural arts from the African Diaspora. The location is the Union Cultural Center, 803 S. King St. The community will be brought together to share, learn, and participate in the vibrant cultures found in the region. The program will begin in January of 2020 and will conclude in December.

Gifts Of Hope

The Gifts of Hope community organization will be hosting the 2022 Community Cultural Winterfest that will be held on December 11, 2022 at the Smilow Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club located at 4520 Martin Luther King Jr Way S. This event will benefit the community by bringing different nationalities and faiths together to celebrate African American Culture. The event is free and open to the public.

Beacon Arts

We seek funds to help pay rental of El Centro de la Raza's Centilia Room and Plaza for use at 4 Beacon Arts Street Fairs June 8, July 13, August 10 & Sept 14th 2024. We have had multiple requests for community dances. Centilia will be used to launch that project at the Street Fairs. Local professional dance teachers and facilitators will lead 4 sessions per day of interactive dance instruction in multiple disciplines and cultural traditions. Centilia first available June 8th. This adds dance to our inclusive, accessible neighborhood celebrations of community interests, accomplishments and local color. Each month features, art market, Garden Share, entertainment and information about projects in our community. Garden Share will be on Maestas Plaza and give away seeds and plants for food sustainability and beautification. BA has Street permits, provide liability insurance, funds and equipment. We partner with many local organizations to entertain and enlighten our neighbors.

Martial Arts in the Public Interest (Quantum Martial Arts)

The Quantum Community Empowerment and Self-Defense Day 2018 will include three 90-minute classes on Saturday, June 9, 2018, between 9am and 3pm at Quantum Martial Arts' studio at 1800 S. Jackson St. Free and open to the public, the classes will address the different self-defense needs of the general public, LGBT community, and female-identifying persons. The goal is to serve at least 80 individuals.

Tigrean Community Association in Seattle

A community day to be held on August 21, 2021, at Genesee Park, located at 4316 S Genesee St from 11am to 5pm. The event is to bring the community together, as well as celebrate Tigray heritage amidst the conflict in Ethiopia and the re-opening of community events post COVID-19. The event will include a variety of foods, music, dance, games, tournament, and vendors.

Highland Park Improvement Club

The Highland Park Improvement Club (HPIC) located at 1116 SW Holden St will engage community members to help enhance and renovate the interior gathering/performance space. Specifically, the renovation will provide new HVAC. The project is expected to be completed by June 2021.

Freakout

Freakout Festival is a 4-day, multi-venue music festival that takes place in the Ballard neighborhood. This festival has a special focus on performances by artists from Mexico & Latin America and is a launching pad for emerging artists. The fest hosts a variety of music, including rock, electronic and hip hop, and we curate established international performers alongside emerging talent from our own region and beyond. Each year there is a strong emphasis on BIPOC performers. The 2025 edition will be our 13th year hosting this event, and we intend to include more programming that is free to the general public. Our goal is to expose Seattleites to new music, meet new friends from all walks of life and offer access to global culture. The event is at 8 different venues: Tractor Tavern, Sunset Tavern, Salmon Bay Eagles Club, Conor Byrne, Ballard Smoke Shop, and new in 2024, Nectar Lounge and High Dive in Fremont. Each year, this event attracts more than 2500 people from around the world.

Furniture Repair Bank

The Furniture Repair Bank (FRB) located at 1938-B Occidental Ave S is a SoDo community hub where neighbors of all ages, ethnicity, and abilities come together to rescue furniture, learn hands-on skills from trainers and volunteers provide restored items to families in Seattle. The improvements will include a dedicated community area, with ergonomic and safety upgrades to make restoration work accessible to all. These enhancements will strengthen community bonds, improve volunteer experience, and expand our impact in keeping furniture in circulation for the benefit of all Seattle residents. The project is free and open to public participation and will be completed in the late Summer of 2026.

People of Color Against AIDS Network

To improve access to technology and technology training for communities of color in Seattle by expanding an existing computer center in Central Seattle.

Urban ArtWorks

This project will create a new community mural under the Holman overpass at the 9500 Block of 8th Ave NW. The mural will be created through a collaborative design and painting process that will include Urban ArtWorks youth, Base Crew artists, professional teaching artists, and residents of the Crown Hill neighborhood and surrounding community. The project will include cleaning and preparing the wall, designing a mural through community input, and painting the large-scale design on the wall on several volunteer Community Paint Days in early summer 2026. The anticipated project complete date is 9/30/2026.

Arboretum Foundation

The Arboretum Foundation will install an environmentally-friendly composting toilet system in the area adjacent to the Pacific Connections Gardens in the Washington Park Arboretum located at 2300 Arboretum Drive East. A prefabricated, composting toilet system will alleviate the lack of facilities, reduce water waste, and promote sustainable practices in outdoor recreation and education. The composting toilet is a low-impact, environmentally responsible solution which also provides a gender neutral option for the park. This project will be completed by March 31, 2020.

Grants for comprehensive, collaborative approaches to address substance use including diversion, treatment, recovery, prescription drug monitoring, and overdose prevention.

Heritage House at the Market

To establish a small lab for low-income, nursing home eligible seniors which will be used as part of a program that matches seniors with high school students and other community volunteers to teach basic computer, Internet, and e-mail skills.

Rainier Chamber of Commerce

Over the next twelve months the Connect 10,000 Video Storytelling project will facilitate the creation of 50 professional videos showcasing the vitality of Southeast Seattle. Storytellers will be recruited from diverse businesses and organizations with a focus on women of color and youth. Several public events are planned.

Mount Baker Community Club

The Mount Baker Community Club will host a three-hour facilitated workshop about race on Sunday, November 18, 2-5pm, at the Mount Baker Community Club, 2811 Mt. Rainier Dr. S. Free and open to public, the workshop will lay the foundation for talking about race, particularly with children. 30-50 participants are expected.
