University of Oregon Libraries
The Oregon Digital Newspaper Project will make the history of Oregon accessible to its citizens through the creation of an online historic Oregon newspaper collection. This funding covers the initial project with matching funds for digitization of 150,000 of historic newspaper pages (approx. 30 years of 12 rural weekly titles). An online newspaper archive will provide a window into the life of local Oregon communities a century or more ago. It will provide the opportunity to teach young people about the history of their communities and inspire them to research and write about our history. It will be freely available to anyone who can access the Internet from their home.
