FDA - Food and Drug Administration
The West Virginia Department of Agricultural – Regulatory and Environmental Affairs Division (WVDA-READ) is comprised of four sections; Food and Agricultural Materials, Laboratory, Pesticide Regulatory and the Environmental Section. Our specific aim for this grant opportunity is to help support the efforts of the WVDA-READ in fulfilling its mission statement of protecting the health, property and environment of the citizens of West Virginia, through legislative mandates, by providing uniform and equitable inspection, sampling, investigative services and analytical analysis to industries and the farm communities. The agency has in place the WV Commercial Feed Law and Rule which we adopt Federal Regulations in their entirety. Further research would be necessary to evaluate the legal authority and regulatory provisions that correspond to the sections of the FDA&C and the Federal Regulations in Standard 2 of the AFRPS. WVDA-READ is seeking ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation for four methods in the agricultural materials section through this grant. Accreditation will enhance the laboratory in being recognized as an officially competent feed testing laboratory with technical results being defensible to the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard. WVDA-READ will identify gaps in the existing programs and begin rewriting laboratory and regulatory standard operating procedures, establish a method review schedule, begin management reviews and establish training needs in accordance with this grant.
