Heal The Hood Committee
The Marvin Thomas Memorial Fund requests Neighborhood Matching Funds to host five community events from November 2024 to October 2025, promoting engagement among underrepresented groups, non-native English speakers, and communities of color in King County, specifically Southeast Seattle residents who have some of the highest poverty rates and the largest percentage of low-income residents in Seattle. These free, inclusive events will strengthen community connections, raise awareness of health disparities, and celebrate local culture. Events include a basketball tournament, a community BBQ, a back-to-school supply giveaway, a cancer awareness event honoring local heroes, and a senior storytelling and basket giveaway. All events will be held in Seattle encouraging relationship building and physical, mental, and social well-being.
