Lakewood Sanctuary
The project is to create a website for the Lakewood Sanctuary for educational and community-building purposes. The Sanctuary was established through Seattle Parks in 2021-22 to protect a small section of Lake Washington Park shoreline and habitat after years of advocacy. The Sanctuary includes some native plants and woody debris, as well as a beaver lodge, birds, turtles, and possibly salmon fry. In 2023 Lakewood Sanctuary was identified by Green Seattle Partnership for restoration. The area has been fenced to keep people and dogs out and protect habitat. The website will help build public awareness and support for the habitat. Such educational efforts are especially important when a place has been put off limits by fencing (NOTE: There is still plenty of accessible park, and also people can visually enjoy the Sanctuary)
